We learned all of life's most important lessons:
Even the nerdiest dudes deserve a chance...
we can learn to love our "dysfunctional" family...
sometimes it's worth the money to hire a professional...
school is actually a fun place to be...
nice guys can finish first
there are always fun ways to remember proper spelling ("double the C double the S and all day long you'll have success")...
and a little laughter can get us through life's crazy twists and turns...
i miss those days of 30 minute morals. No one ever got into more trouble than could be resolved with a little soft piano music and a hug. Shows lasted a lot longer back then. we watched our tv friends grow up, and realized we were growing up too. as much as i love reality tv and its short spurts of drama, romance and comedy, there's still a part of me that longs for the wholesome and cheesy family sitcoms that filled my Friday nights during those crucial years of personal development.
Here's to DJ Tanner,Cory, Topanga, Michelle, Zack Morris, Steve Urkel, the Huckstables, Tim the Toolman Taylor, Cousin Dana and all the other small screen stars who showed me the ways of the world.

Have you actually tried watching any of those shows lately? It is NOT the same watching them now is it was then. I thought they were wonderful back in the day but now I can hardly sit through them (except for The Cosby Show- that is still one of the best shows EVER).
I do miss the days when I would sit down and for 3 hours, I learned the most cheese-filled lessons. Without those shows, who knows how I might have turned out.
* I might have broken the Elvis figurine and not told Screech's mom.
* I might have thought that "borrowing" my sister's sweater, spilling mustard on it and shrinking it was ok.
* I might have thought that doing the Urkel was uncool.
Whew- I really missed a bullet there!
i'm just glad that these shows are starting to come out on dvd. i mean, who wouldn't love to watch hours and hours of commercial free saved by the bell?
everytime i see urkel, i remember initiations . . . any lambdas out there hear me?! yeah . . .

My sister and have fallen in love with TV Land which re-runs a bunch of these shows late at night. One of our new favorite is "Perfect Strangers". No one could learn a life lesson in 30 minutes like Balki.

I have to admit that I am a little too old for Boy Meets World, all the others...spent hours watching.
I have to agree with you Breanna. I would love to return to the days of good wholemsome television where family was big and cleavage was not. :)
*sigh* The Cosby Show was on Thursday nights on NBC, not on Fridays on ABC. C'mon, get it right ;)
also, i thought that i had made it clear that not all the shows listed were actually TGIF shows. i was pretty sure i had used the phrase "my blog my rules" then i realized i used that phrase the first time i had written the post, only to have it deleted by the blogger trolls. But thanks for your gracious understanding Ha-May.

Remember the Dinosaur show? With the freaky costumes? It was like the Flintstones, only they were Dinosaurs. I think it lasted maybe one season, but a die-hard would recognize it.
Balki was great. Cousin Larry was such a tool, what with his goofy hair.
