iPod of bliss

I've been wanting it for awhile, and now my dreams have come oh so true! my very own 20GB iPod arrived and now my free time (all six minutes of it) is devoted to packing all my music into the cute little guy.

If you know me, you know i've got a penchant for naming the things i own. A few examples:

truck: Ethan
ben's car: larky
little angel thing hanging from truck mirror: isabella
laptop: lappy (unoriginal, but a thing between me and a buddy)
and the many fish: winston, guar, Xena, Flavio, Umar and so on

and so, i've been puzzled trying to find the right name for the iPod. i mean, he and I will inevitably become very close friends, what with all the working out together, falling asleep together, long drives together and the like. So it's a fairly important thing to capture all his goodness in one name.

This is where you come in. Not to long ago i was listening to the radio (obviously during my pre-iPod days) and heard that a woman was selling her unborn child's name on Ebay. firstly, eww gross. secondly, i can work with that. What is a good name for the iPod? The commenter who's submission I select gets a one day early start on this month's "what's in the brown bag." So there's a lot on the line. My choice will be made by Wednesday, and WITBB is unveiled publically on Thursday.
Please be creative, i hate normal names.

i'm going to suggest "plaid pope," for two reasons.

1) it's an anagram for "apple ipod."

2) who wouldn't want to find themselves walking about mumbling aloud, "now where did i leave the plaid pope?" or, "i'm going to take the plaid pope for a ride." or, "i can't count on anyone but the plaid pope." if not for her own pleasure, for the pleasure of any and all who may overhear and send you on a "vacation."

i was thinking something more along the lines of gilbert.

or fluvio.

or lillian.

until my next bright idea . . .

there's a kid i call filbert, which is a name that has grown on me over the last two months. not iPod appropriate.

is it floovio or fluhvio?

and the iPod is distinctly male. so lillian is out.

just to be clear.

hmmm, fluvio (prn: floovio) does have a certain ring to it...

I like Mel. It's short and sweet. Mel it is then.

Call it Bo, after Bo Bice, and since I know you like that one show, you should automatically pick it.

Tim-

while it is true that I love "that one show" i did NOT love bo. all the people that i was really rooting for were voted out kinda early on. Good notion, but you missed the target.

Ryan Peters-
Sometimes I have no idea what you're saying. Did your Simmons papers look like that?

Bill-
actually, i think Kermit is super cute for an ipod mini. Maybe kermi for short, since it's a mini and not as in your face. Don't shy away from naming stuff, it's nice. it gives you a sense of relationship with your stuff (in a non-materialistic sort of way...more like a "grateful for what i have" way)

james-
mel? what's your inspiration there?

(i'm secretly hoping you choose plaid pope, but i'm not going to say that outloud, cause i don't want to jinx it. not for personal reasons, do i want it to win, but simply because i think plaid pope is awesome)

tabitha jane said...

yes, rm was correct, the pronunciation is flooovio.

breanna said...

(not that i'd say this outloud, but rm, you are actually leading the pack.)

The fashion concience you should be listening to said...

I like the name Milo. It's fun, short and cute. Seems to fit an ipod. Thought the Plaid Pope is really funny too.
My brother named his Monkey Knife Fight and I wouldn't tell if you wanted to steal that one.

That's ok, I don't expect everyone who watches that show to have good taste in music. I mean, the whole point of the show is to put out what sells records, right? It has little to do with talent. I mean...if a country singer can win it...

Who did you want to win? I had a few favorites, none of which was the winner.

don't take it personal my friend. i was teasing. Let's call it even for that one time you used the dreaded "P" word on my blog. deal?

How 'bout "PussPod" since it is white...like puss.

breanna said...

mike-
that's just plain mean. i respect you enough to not delete it, but i am LITERALLY gagging right now. eww. and eww again.

breanna said...

also i'm going immediately to purchase a colored case so as to not have to remember your imagry.

you could name it poddy mouth for all that dirty music you listen to!

just kidding. i know you don't listen to much dirty music :)

My inspiration was the iPod. I don't really know. Mel is cool and funny and a little weird (Mel Torme, Mel Blanc, Mel Brooks) kinda like you and kinda like an iPod. It fits to me.

tabitha jane said...

mel gibson

breanna said...

also, tim lewis-you've lost your additional bag of pull 'n peel for insinuating that i have poor taste in music.

in the words of Stephanie Tanner from Full House: HOW RUDE!

Tim said...

How could I say such a thing?

I'll go put Britney Spears in the cd player for my actions.

breanna said...

My Decision:

Fluvio the Plaid Pope.

because plaid pope HAD to win, but i need a name a can shorten easily...aka floov. so, tabitha and RM are the winners. I realized there was no point in sharing WITBB early, cause it's contingent upon previous experience. anyways.

congrats to the both of you. i owe you each a coffee. but only if you ever read this again. haha.
